Two Group Shows in February

I will have two new pieces presented in custom made mosaic frames in a group show titled OBJET TROUVE' at The Potter's Wife Gallery. I had so much fun creating these obnoxious frames from found vintage objects. Thanks to my husband who helped me by building the raw frames out of wood, that I got to make a big mess of! It was a time consuming under taking, and something I have been wanting to do for years, and I completely enjoyed it. I plan to do more in the near future. Here are the two pieces for that show and the event flyer below. If you are interested in a closer look at these, as in hanging them on your wall at home, contact the friendly folks over at the Potters Wife Gallery for prices.

At the close of 2011

2011 was a busy year for me and I produced a lot of work, along with curating my first group show titled SMALL HIDDEN DOORS. A theme based show of artists re-interpretation of a dream. Here is one piece I did for that show. This is a dream re-interpreted of drinking poison:

"Dangerous Garden"
18" x 24"
acrylic on wood
SOLD

Another piece created at the close of 2011, was this portrait I did of Mozart's sister, Nannerl.

"Hidden in plain sight"
15" x 20"
acrylic on wood

I have created a custom mosaic frame of vintage items to go with this piece. I will post that at a later date.

Auspicious Signs Series 1-4

I'm working on this short series of eight pieces called The Auspicious Signs series. It's inception was very organic and came to be through the kind, creative individuals that have been willing to be apart of it. I was researching the topic of auspicious signs for my solo show at Red Line Gallery earlier this year and came across these eight symbols.

The symbols are very meaningful religious symbols of Buddhism, revealing our progress along the Buddhist path to enlightenment. No matter your religion of choice, I believe this basis of meaning touches all walks of life. It became especially interesting to me to see these symbols re-told through imagery in portrature style of the creative individuals that have had a personal influence in my own life, further emphasising the connection of these auspicious symbols.

From this explanation we can see that the symbolism of the eight auspicious signs shows how to begin, progress along, and complete the spiritual path.

I want to say a special thank you to the artists and creative writers that particpated in this portrait series. Each person was matched to their symbol through intuition. I hope that I have done a good job in this, and I hope that through my interpretation It may bring some positive ripple into your lives. I am grateful to have met you all!

Below are the first Four and their descriptions in the series. I will post the last remainig Four when completed.

Commission

I had the pleasure of doing a commissioned piece this summer through my friends over at Red Line Gallery in Knoxville TN. http://redlinegallery.net/the-gallery

The client requested a hallowen themed piece with an emphasis on a pumpkin and the color orange. I envisioned a sultry vixen who has stolen the soul of the jack-o-lantern.

"Masquerade"
18" x 24"
Acrylic on wood
